DIFFERENCES IN HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY

Post by alexandrewillys51 »

Hello everyone,

Today I went to check my parts to start assembling the headlights of my M-38 and noticed a small difference in the pieces.

FIRST IMAGE: The difference is in the bracket parts.

SECOND IMAGE: The difference is in the mounting holes of the play "LAMP UNIT - RETAINING RING". The difference appears also in how it is set. In one bending just one plate and the second an extra piece is riveted in the ring.

Could anyone tell me when changes were seen, or maybe one of them belonged to the M38 and another to M38a1? Just a hypothesis.

I wonder what the correct part for my M38 EARLY.

Thanks to all
Alexandre

For Willys factory installed Auto-Lite headlight assemblies the two units in the left side of your photos are correct for the M38.

There were several headlight assembly manufacturers used by the US Army. The majority all matched the same basic military headlight specification and most will interchange between different make M series trucks. Many can interchange parts within the assemblies.
