12v using a 24v alt?

Post by Shakinboxcarjoe »

I've been watching an M38 on eBay to what it sells for. It's advertised as a 12v conversion and it does show a 12v dist and coil. I also noted the original 24v alternator, cable, and regulator was still hooked up. Can you convert to 12v and use the original 24v alt and reg? Btw: Jeep didn't reach its reserve...did get to 7100 though.

Hmm I'm going to guess not without rebuilding and altering the parts but I'm not sure. I look forward to the answer from the experts.

Short answer is NO.

Please note: The M38 original installation is a 24 volt 25 Amp GENERATOR and regulator not an alternator. There are military 24 Volt 60 amp alternators and 24 volt 100 amp alternators.
