bellcrank kit seal

Post by aforests »

Has anyone had luck finding the seal #801566 ?
It is shown outlined in the blue in the image below. I have not yet found a kit that includes this seal. Can't find the seal sold separately either.

None of them could tell you where to get one? If so they are probably going to be hard to find. Don't give up.

Could this be it?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Willys-M38 ... 1679100095

Hard to tell from the picture in the ad. Here's the specs on it that I looked up some time ago:

Here's the mummified one on my M38A1 with the garder spring around it:

I think the last discussion on this ended with Jimm saying he would try slicing a section out of a close-enough rubber hose. Don't know how that worked out.

That ebay seal looks like it is the real deal, just minus the tension spring around it. Too bad shipping is more than the actual part! Might see if I can find something local that would perform the same function!

Aaron, FYI, that particular seller is Brent Mullins and he is generally regarded as trustworthy. This said so you can add him to your list
of "get to know" guys.

close enough?

Unless you're a 'stickler' for originality, I would suggest a simple O-Ring, especially since it doesn't get particularly compressed. Local plumbing supply or Home Depot/Lowes also.

I found a suitable replacement seal that should work as well as the original. Only cost me a $1 at the local hardware store. The dimensions are exact except the inside diameter is smaller by 1/16". It being rubber, I see no reason why it won't work like the original. I was even able to remove the original spring from the old seal and put it on this grommet.

Thanks for sharing. I'm all over that. As soon as I can beg some time away from the wife and kids to pull the bell crank again. :-)

I decided to buy a couple o-rings to use as seals for my bell crank resto. When I took this off it did not have the seals on it, so I am struggling to figure out exactly where they go and what size they are. I bought 1 1/8" OD o rings as that is what size I thought they would be. I just need to know where these sit and then i can figure out if size is correct.
