I removed the motor and drive shafts from the jeep today. and happy that it went well. I had sent chuck a few photos of the project and he pointed out the coil springs in the rear.
I had looked at them and they looked like they belonged there so I never gave it another thought. I plan on removing them tomorrow, I will try and get some photos of the mounting bracket they had used to install them
Recoiless rifle? What type of warfare, similar to mortor or artillery? Avalanche control? A Jeep with a big gun for sure. Always wondered what they used them for. John
They are very common aftermarket overload or helper coils that have been in use for many years. They are usually multi-vehicle fit applications. The spring set in my photo above are from the Recoiless rifle set-up kit for the M38.
Thanks for the great information on the coil spring sets, It is good to know if I ever want to put them on again.
but for now I don't think I am going to re install the old ones or put new ones on.
