RPM's
Wes, I took the carb apart and discovered that the metering rod spring was missing. Now to find one! Also the metering rod pin was also missing. I think that the pin is a stop for the spring? If anyone knows where I can get these two part's let me know. The parts are EE and BB in the carb section of the manual. I'm glad I took it out because I also found that the intake and exhauset manifold nuts where loose (one finger loose) I took care of that very carfully because they are cast and break very easy. (No torqe whrench) Just checked the part's maual I guess it's all how you look at it. I'm not missing the spring just the pin. Your diagram on our web page show's it in the wrong location. Well I took it apart and cleaned everything, put everything back together in the proper order and by the book. IT WON'T START AT ALL NOW! The fuel pump is fine. It started at first but that was because there was still some fuel in the manifold. I'm going out now to get some starter fluid and see what happens. (I did not leave anything out, but added to it (the meter pin)

Rich,
Looks like Ryan has loaded the old page with the spring in the wrong position.
Here's my modified page.

While you have the carb off this would be a good time to make sure the diffuser is in there between the carb base and the manifold.

They aren't that hard to find and are not that expensive. The L134's get them to improve fuel atomization at low RPMs when the engine is cold.
