M170 Wiring Harness

Post by W8kbrder »

Hi all,

After extensive searching, I've had no luck coming across any info leading to a source for a new wiring harness. My M170 obviously has the 24v system.

Any ideas on tracking down a whole new harness? Or will it be easier just attempting to covert to 12v...which I do not want to do.

thanks!

Is the wiring harness very different than a regular M38a1?

If not, those are available. In addition, a couple of other
M Series vehicles harnesses should work with a little modification.

The only significant differences between the M170 and M38A1 harnesses are those effected by length and the location of the voltage regulator. Other minor changes are the use of the voltmeter replacing the amp meter and wires 8 & 9 & the introduction of the portable reel lamp. The later M170's used the Packard connectors.

You can see all of this just by reviewing the many wiring diagrams in the M38A1 Service manual TM 9-8014.

Hello: I sent my original to Vintage wiring and he used it to jig up new one. My guess is he can make you one. I also have detailed photos of how the original was routed in frame. Frame clamps are very unique clips.

Hello Brian,
I would suggest loading those detailed harness layout photos to an album here where all can access them.
