Rear Axle Seals

Post by southpw »

Looking through ORD 9 and having a hard time determining where seal 7374988(640959) goes. Once I took my rear axle apart I have a seal on the outer end of tube but no seal on the inner part of tube near the differential. Is this correct? Every other rear axle I have worked on has never had a seal on outer side of tube and had diff fluid running freely in tube up to outer seal. But a reputable dealer has an auction on ebay with this part number and states it goes on inner side of tube with instructions to pull carrier to get to seal.
Just want to confirm if a seal is required on inner side of axle tubes on the 44 axle? If so, what are the part numbers for inner and outer seals.
Thanks

Thanks Wes. I forgot about that 1st picture. I was looking at that last week. I knew the answer but after reading description in the auction I had to question it.
