M38 cowl lid receptacle

Post by 4x4M38 »

I found these guys on Ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181699140512?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

Received today and compared with an original still on a cut off portion of the cowl. All dimensions appear right on, other than a raised area under the mounting holes as can be seen. A little extra length in the mounting rivets and they should work just fine.

The pin screws right in and locks as it should.

I will only need two. If anyone needs a couple, or more, let me know.

Thanks.

They are for applications that use flush (countersunk) rivets which is why their rivet holes are dimpled down away from the mounting skin.

As can be seen here the original rivets were standard round head rivets.

Box

Post by G740 »

Hi Wes,
Not sure why the picture of my box is noted as not having the up turned edge. The up turned edge is part of the cowl top, not the box, just for the record.
The box attaches to the up turned edge via spot welds.
Regards
John

Because the photo warns buyers not to cut the upturned edge of their cowls off because the that upturned edge does come with any replacement boxes.

Sometimes you have to think outside the box!
