T90/engine rebuild parts

So I have been reading and looking at getting some parts together for the M38A1 T90 and have been looking at Novak's master rebuild kit. But was leery of the double sealed front input bearing but did like the possibility of it helping seal out any leaks coming from the input shaft. I would think a bearing in that situation would need to be washed with oil constantly. I'm not going to be climbing rocks or off roading with this jeep but I also don't want to skimp in area's like this. When I do it I like to do it once and do it right. Same with engine rebuild parts such as valves, pistons, and crank bearings who stocks the good stuff? :lol:

So what is out there for quality rebuild kits?

Is crown know for decent stuff for restoration projects or is it a chance taken? I read to stay away from Omix Ada as some of their stuff can be not of great quality when it comes to precision.

My thoughts of using a quality new modern day sealed bearing in the tranny is to compare it to the abuse seen on sealed hub bearings. They are used on countless vehicles today holding the vehicle's weight and spinning tires at 2500 RPM for thousands upon thousands of miles.
In the tranny there is none of that going on, it's just basically holding the shaft in place.
Even sealed, it's still going to get a little oil seeping in when the oil is up to temp.
Time is a tell of all tales, Mine has been in for a couple years, will report back in 30 years to tell how it holds up.
Fair comparison? I don't know, just my thoughts.

Brett hit the nail on the head. Sealed bearings last 200,000 miles on most applications in modern vehicles. That said this assumes you are using a QUALITY bearing. This usually means US made to be safe.

If you have a sharp guy at Crown he will tell you when he has a choice between an offshore bearing and a US made bearing which is usually priced a bit higher. Then you decide what longevity you are looking for in the part.

As a rule overhaul sets from Novak and Advanced Adapters are top shelf.

Don't overlook Bearing Headquarters and other bearing specialty dealers.

Thank you for the reply Brett and Wesk you have made a very valid point, I hadn't thought of it that way. I have also not heard of or come across Advanced Adapters or Bearing Headquarters in my Web searches and will be adding them to my growing list of posible places to get parts during this resto. Thanks again.
