Wheels

Post by aforests »

I have read most of the other threads on wheels. Looking for information on the rims that came on my m38. I have attached photos of my rims with measurements. Width seems right at 4.5", but height is showing 16.5 instead of 16".
I have numerous willys pickup rims that measure 5" x 17.5" Wondering if I would be better off using those... Any opinions would be appreciated.

Don't measure from the rim edge, you measure from where the tire bead sets. Those look like 4.5 X 15 inches.

As Bretto said those rims are 15". The truck rims would fit the jeep much better. I would first decide which tire style and size you will be using. If the stock height is what you want then it is a simple choice. 7.00-16 tires and the pickup 16 x 5 wheels. If you want a more modern tire look and stance then do what I did back in 1987 on My first M38A1 and run 235 x 75R -15 Wranglers on 15 x 8 white spokes. These kept the jeep at the stock ride height yet gave me a lot more rubber on the road. This stock A1 rolled down I-90 in Rapid City at a comfortable 60 MPH to and from work.

I should have posted that I will be using the 700-16 Firestone NDCC tires. I will take your suggestion and use the truck rims that I have. Thanks for the information!
