Price Question
I have found a guy that has a military F head engine. I have looked at it and he says it is free turning and a good working engine. I have no way of really testing it. All the parts seem to be there and the transmission and transfer case would go with it. Any idea how much it is really worth? He is starting at $1,200.

Bottom line on engines even if the seller is your cousin is if you can't hear it run then it's a core engine. Core value depending on accessories and condition are worth $150 to $500. Before I paid $1200 for a non-runable (seller said its good) engine I would strongly consider a fresh overhauled engine for $1800.
Once you own the engine then tear it down the cracks in the block, the frozen rings, the scored crank and so on will eat your wallet.
I just bought a used 1995 Ford truck 300 six with fuel injection guaranteed to run without knocks and not to burn oil for $600 from a salvage yard.
