I have added two photos to my photo album
(Gary Keating) on the site that show the fuel valve as installed and the general layout of all the parts making up this kit for the M38.

The power plant heater kit was for use in Arctic conditions. It had a electric fuel control valve mounted UNDER the right step which fed the gas fired heater's fuel pump (Mounted on the right inner fender) that heated the engine coolant and at the same time circulated heated coolant thru special tubing sets installed in each of the battery boxes.

Since they were normally only used when a vehicle was assigned to an extreme arctic weather area they were usually removed and returned to motor pool storage when they went back to the warmer climates.

Some lucky surplus buying sole in Alaska, Greenland, Scandinavia has probably several hundred on pallets and no idea what they are for.
