Problem with a Pertronix Ignitor 1 system

Post by Brinken »

Hi all
After a very fruitful discussion in the early summer
http://willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php? ... e&start=15
I decided to purchase a Pertronix Ignitor 1 system for my M38A1. It arrived late this summer, very expencive and very small.

After installing it and after adjusting the ignition with an old and traditional strobe light, I still find some problems. After releasing the throttle when running on higher engine speed, it farts back in the exhaust pipe. I understand this is because the ignition is to high and the "pre-ignitor expanders" (can't find the English word for it) in the bottom floor of the distributor is not returning to base fast enough. Is there anything I can improve here????

Any corrosion or drag on the
"pre-ignitor expanders" (can't find the English word for it) in the bottom floor of the distributor
(Governor or centrifugal advance mechanism in US) will cause your ignition to return to 5 degrees before TDC fast enough from the fly weight induce 11 to 15 degrees advance. The answer is to thoroughly clean and lube the flyweight system.

I have illustrations for the military distributor but I see you have a civilian distributor. They are very similar but I have the data for the civilian distributor as well and will see if I can get it uploaded here this evening.

The entire chapter on the rebuilding & repair of that distributor is on our downloads page.
