I use Sta-Lube brand 85-90 GL4 gear lube in the transmission and transaxle of my M38 and M38A1. Its available on-line but hasn't been in local stores for several years. The statement above about GL1 oils "intended for manual transmissions operating under such mild conditions" gives me pause to consider GL1 grade. While my vehicles are not used for heavy off-road or load pulling operations, I want the extra protection of a GL4 grade oil.

Thanks a lot GPA.
I had a long conversation on the Swedish Jeep Club webpage and one of the guys told me I can get Gl-1 SAE 80/90 gear oil on the Swedish petrol stations OK/Q8, so I went to the local petrol station and found it there, just 10 km from my home.
How did you discover this Swedish company? A search on the Internet, or other knowledge?

Hi Brinken (Jan-Olof) You should not worry about the load carrying abilities of GL-1 spec oil. It is a factory recommended trans oil on some older sports cars with a lot higher load and temperature than faced in the jeep transmissions. It has additives to prevent wear and corrosion. That company (Motul) is selling the gear oil in the recommended single gade SAE 90.
I know about the Swedish distributor because I had some Scandinavian customers here and contacted them at the time.
