M38 bracket pivot - grooved support on cowl

My M38 does not have a grooved support where the windshield bracket pivot has to fit in. (as per example picture above )

I am almost shure that small grooved rectangle comes bonded to the side panel.

But... almost is not 100% ..

Where do I find that two parts ( one on each side ) ? is it welded ? does it have a proper name ?

They are separate parts that are attached with two screws from the
inside of the cowl. They are threaded.

Pretty sure i have a pair that I do not need. Pm me.

I do have an extra pair. The freight may be excessive.
They look easily made if you have the dimensions which I
can supply. The grooves might be tricky.

I can look into mailing these two if you wish.

These are on Ebay. They include two inner serrated plates PN 673554, 1 left outer bracket PN 673555, 1 right outer bracket PN 673556, 4 bolts( hex head, integral lock washer, steel, cad or zinc plated, 5/16-18NC-2x1"), and 2 pivot bolts PN 668921

Good stuff learning something new every day.......mine are missing too. I'm guessing their purpose has something to do with reinforcing metal and/or the proper spread or bearing of the windshields' arms on the pivots?

Never seen any NOS advertised. Are the dimensions for these serrated plates 673554 available for local fabrication? <asking Brian to get them before shipping> I'll probably incur the wrath of Khan by asking instead of in the wanted forum, but are there any ready-made sources besides $30 all the way from India? <meaning I'd rather keep my coinage in the U.S.A. --- and hoping G740 says he can make some a heck of a lot better and cheaper than I can>

Hi Ron,
I already wrapped these up or I'd measure them for you. They are rectangular
and as per the photo Wes posted virtually the same dimensions as the hinge
brackets except they have square edges. Holes are threaded 5/16-18 and you
could use the hinge brackets and center the holes, or just use the holes in the cowl. They have grooves cut into them to help grip the hinge bracket.

I'm betting Midwest Military, AJP, Brent Mullins and/or Quarter Ton Military have some. Some of the easy parts to get off terminally ill tubs.

They are absolutely essential.

Ps they are at least 1/8" thick.

Oh heck. I can go measure the ones on my cowl.

1-3/16 wide x 4". They want to measure out at 3/16" thick.

Grooves are 1/16" apart. Looks like the hole centers are 5/8" from
the ends and centered on the width.

I would have Wes but as I mentioned earlier I already packaged up
the loose ones. The only photo I could post would be similar to the one
at the top.

Maybe somebody has one or a pair loose they could photo and we could
stick everything on your photo pages for reference.

Heck a photo of the cowl there without the windshield would work.

Actually the serrated plates with their matching serrations on the outer brackets allow the windshield to be adjusted in very small increments to correct final position of the windshield on the cowl.
