Clutch cable, early or late?

Post by 4x4M38 »

And I see Uncle John is surfing, so I'll ask
this question as well.

Did the M38 originally come with the plain
clutch cable then switch to the one with extra
balls on it when they switched to the sealed
bell housing and enhanced fording ventilation system?

Is using the old cable with the bellows a waste?
I don't see how it would keep out any water.
Can you just clamp the bellows onto the cable
with a hose clamp?

Thanks.

If you carefully review the ORD 9 SNL G-740 you will learn that the excepted turn over point for the switch to a better sealed bell housing was engine SN 74419, or Chassis SN MC53362 in Feb 1952.

The clutch control cable switch from sealess to sealed was at engine SN MC74419. Is also found in the same ORD 9.

It would be difficult to seal the old cable to the late bellows type seal without causing rapid wear on the bellows type seal.

Thanks Wes.

My early M38 has a rebuilt motor, late sealed bell housing and just making
sure I match all the parts.
