Voltage Regulator swap out

Post by Jim »

I've put up with no battery charge for
three years now on our M38. Mechanic
says the generator is working, and the
guage jumps a bit but doesn't indicate
any charge happening. My question is,
can you just swap out a new Voltage
Regulator with the old one, hooking it
up as per the cable plug, or are there
some additional things which must be done?

Yes, just install the new regulator either type transistor or mechanical and be sure to polarize the system.

If you have the old style regulator and the Ammeter and swap to the Transistorized one you will need to change to a Voltmeter... No shunt for the Ammeter...

Easy thing to do, just tap your spider harness and to ground...

Hope this helps...

Are there some directions on polarizing the
system elsewhere in the site? I neglected
to copy the discussion on this some time
back.
