Oil Pump Install

Hi Wes...Have read a bunch of articles on your site but still need to hear the advice before doing anything. My 134 has been completely re-built. I got her all together last year. I have NOT tried starting it because I have a concern about the oil pump. I'm glad I read your article about soaking the oil pump because I never did this!! So I need to ask you here if I really need to remove the pump and soak it before going forward or is there a simpler way of getting around this. I just hate having to go through the timing scenario again. Should I also inject oil into the gallys until I have a flow in the filter before starting it or will the oil pump take care of this?

If you pressure prime the system with an external pump you'll be good to go. Most folks do not own a pressure pot or external hand/motorized oil pump so they must make sure to pack the pump with grease or fill it with oil at assembly to insure it will prime itself on startup..

You made my day. I dreaded having to re-do the timing because these old bones hurt bending over that fender. This will save me a lot of time. Thank you. The hand pumps by the way are really cheap in price.
