M38 windshield rubber

Post by radtech »

Does the insert on the windshield rubber go on the inside or outside?

Inside - when they were installed at the factory, the windshield was laid down on the hood, thus inside...

At least that is what I was told... Also the factory photos I have seen show that...

Inside is correct. Another clue is the manual itself TM 9-1804B page 168 Figure 106 shows the bead on the aft side (rear) of the windshield. An yes the windshield is usually laying down on the hood when the glass is installed.

I just put my windshield glass in my artic cab. It's fixed and doesn't lay down. It was a learning experience. You have to use a special tool to install the locking cord. Can't imagine laying it down. I guess I'll find out soon enough. I have yet to do the folding windshield.
