Stencil Info

Post by w30bob »

Hi Guys,

I see a number of folks sell a stencil for the M38 and A1 that says "Prestone 42" or "Prestone 52", etc. What does the number mean? Is that a mixture ratio or a specific type of Prestone? Prestone is a brand name.......so shouldn't the stencil say "Anti-freeze" instead.....or was Prestone the only brand of anti-freeze the Army used?

Also, where was this stencil put?

Thanks,
Bob

The most common used ant-freeze. You stenciled the name so you knew which brand to add later to avoid intermixing brands. The number is the last two digits of the year it was serviced.

On our Air Force vehicles I also saw the protection level included like 0 deg's or -20 and such.

Usually placed on the underside of the hood.

On some M38A1 in Germany were these Antifreez markings applied on the hood.
