Anybody have Kelly Locking Hubs?

Post by w30bob »

Hi Guys,

I picked up a nice set of Kelly locking hubs for my A1......I want a set of hubs that don't have a manufacturer's name in big letters on them, and the Kelly's fit the bill. They're used so I want to take them apart, clean/blast them and re-lube and paint........but I want to know what's inside them before I disassemble. Info on the web is just about zero....there's 4 or 5 pics and the original brochure. One post mentions the internals having ball bearings that are spring loaded........so care must be taken when disassembling........but that's all I found. Oh, an earlier patent is up there too.........but no one can read those things..........so pretty useless.

If anyone knows what's inside them..........or has taken a set apart.......I'd like to talk to you. I can post pics of these hubs later if no one remembers them.

thanks,
bob

Thx Wes, I was thinking to transfer those to my album here but they're so uncommon I was surprised that anyone else was interested in them. Last I remember David Eilers (E Willys) had my pics and was researching patents, dates and such for those and other obscure lock hubs.
I shot a PM to our friend Keith to see if he had anything on them..

Rick,

Thanks for posting them...........info on those hubs is just about nil. That's a bit surprising seeing how simple and robust they are. I had visions of ball bearings and springs flying all over my workspace..........now I see that's not the case with a little care.

thanks again,
bob

I have a set on my '51 M38 and they work well. They were on it when I bought it and will remain! John

Those look great. Definitely a little more subtle than some of the ones out there. I'll have to keep my eye out for a set.
