Paint options - modern paint

Post by davistroy »

If I want to get "close enough" with the color (USMC Forest Green Semi Gloss - 24052), but more durable like the modern paints, what should I consider?

Pick your preferred modern paint supplier (preferably a local dealer to you) and take a smaple of the 24052 color you want and have them duplicate it for you.

I just restored my M-38 and I used postwar semi-gloss #24087 paint from Beachwood CanvasWorks in Island Heights, N.J. 732-929-3168. It's suppose to be an exact color match and formula match to the original paint. It may even contain "lead" which makes the paint very durable. I found it to be a very heavy bodid paint that covers very well.

Good luck, Dennis

24087 is the brownish mid fifties Army OD. The Willys production line used the gray/greenish 2430 OD thru 1955. Most M series vehciles ended up in 24087 due to repaints after 1955 by the Army. The closest ready mixed paint on the market today to the Willys factory original 2430 OD is either Gillespie's 23070 or AJP's late WWII OD.
