Help needed to identify bracket underneath exhaust.

Post by LTDan »

Hi all, I need help identifying this bracket that bolts underneath the exhaust.

Vehicle 1954 M38A1
134F motor

It appears to be part of the fording system, possibly the guide bracket for the fording cable.

That is illustrated in your M38A1 engine manual TM 9-8015-1 Page 10 Fig 4, item S.

If you do not have this manual we have it here on our downloads page free in PDF format: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules. ... tit&lid=85

If you own an early M38A1 you should get your hands on a copy of TM 9-804A dated July 1952. It is the earliest M38A1 operators manual and has many photos of the early setups that the TM 9-8014 dated April 55 does not have.

Here's an online download: http://radionerds.com/images/8/89/TM_9-804A_M38A1.pdf

Here's the TM 9-804A engine left side view.

TM 9-8014 only shows engine views of the later non-fording M38A1 setups.
