The 4 screws that retain the boot ring item B in this photo.

The ring and it's four attaching screws are in the appropriate ORD 9

For the M38 ORD 9 SNL G-740 Page 301

For the M38A1 ORD 9 SNL G-758 page 329.

Reddog, If you can take a moment and go to your profile and add a signature block to all your post. Then I would suggest you insert your common first name and the year, make, model of your jeep and/or trailer. Then we will all know immediately what vehicle your question is about. Plus we'll learn to recognize your real name instead the call sign thingy.

Looks like you weren't able to upgrade your profile. Let me know the real first name. & year/make/model of your jeep and I'll add the signature block for you.

Wes,

Is this one place where Phillips head screws were used?

If you note carefully the M38 ORD 9 page shows the original screw was a common slotted. The supersedure is a crosspoint for the M38 and was the original on the M38A1 starting at the beginning of A1 production in the summer of 1952. It wouldn't surprise me to see a factory original slotted screw in any 1952 M38 or any 1952 M38A1. We all know that the production line threw NOTHING away!

Wes,

Thank you. I have not mastered the documents as well as you but I am trying. I bought an M 38 last year that was mostly original and it has been my research vehicle while I continue work on 2 others. I have found mostly slotted screws on the original M 38.
