M38A1 Auto-Lite ignition coil
My M38A1 24 volt Auto-Lite distributor ignition coil reads primary 6 ohms and secondary 14,000 ohms, is this satisfactory? The spark seems a little weak too me. Any thoughts?

Welcome aboard Spad. Since you are new to the board let me mention that my photo album is the 2nd album in our web site member's albums. In it are well over 400 detailed photos and illustration that usually have the answers to about 90% of the normal questions that get posted here.

You'll find your answer about 1/2 way down the page.
As you can see your secondary resistance is 3,000 Ohms high. Do you know the temperature of your coil when you got those readings? During any initial ohm check of my coils I check them first at room temp. Then I heat them with a heat gun until they start to get slightly uncomfortable to hold and recheck. If both readings are out of tolerance change the coil. If only the 2nd reading is out of tolerance then accurately record the temp and then if still out of tolerance replace the coil. Try to obtain only a US built coil.

Thank you Wes for the response. The measurement was made at room temperature. I'll warm it up tomorrow and make another measurement. Also I tried to look/click on your links, but the system wouldn't let me. Said restricted access for registered users only and I was logged in already. Do you know what I'm doing wrong?

If you are currently logged into our web site then any of our web site links you click on should take you right there. Of course a lot depends on how you have your browser set up . Also our very old web site Forum program is not very friendly to phone & I pad users. If that is the case try to show your issue to a local computer guru and see if they can help determine where the problem is coming from.
