So one is to soak the pilot bearing in oil prior to installation, then install, and compare the inside diameter with the outside diameter of the input shaft for proper fitting, and ream if necessary.
What happens with the cuttings from the reaming?
Do you try and wipe/flush it out?

Test fit first by sliding over tranny shaft. If all is well then soak in oil and install. Then test fit spare shaft if you have one. If all is well then install tranny. If you find that the bushing’s insertion caused a reduction in ID that prevents smooth shaft insertion ream for a correct fit, clean and spray oil into ID.
The original soaking is meant to take a day or so to allow the oil to permeate the porous bushing material. Reaming later will not harm the bushings lubricity and cleaning out chips won’t either.
