battery disconnect switch

Post by remi_emond »

Wes, you mention on other topic "Yes, disconnect the ground cable on the underhood battery. If you buy a disconnect switch put it there also."
Can I use the cable between the dash mounted battery and the starter?

You can, or as i did, i placed the switch in the firewall, besides the airfilter and between the big cable from front battery to cowlbattery. The switchhandle sits in the glovebox wich i can lock with a key

If you use the ground terminal at the front battery you turn off both batteries and have no risk of accidentally shorting the large cable when installing or removing the switch. The switch can be mounted on the front end of the front fender, the grill or the radiator support.

If you use the cowl battery to starter cable you risk a short when installing or removing the switch and you turn off both batteries.

If you connect it to the cable between the two batteries you risk a short when installing or removing the switch and you will turn off both batteries.

If you use the second choice you can place the switch inside the jeep for easy access.

If you use the first choice you can hide the switch between the radiator and the grill by bolting it to the right verticle section of the support. Then you can reach thru the right side grill bars and operate the switch.

Wes, I will disconnect the ground on underhood battery before installing the switch to avoid shortage. The switch will be installed in between the cowl battery and starter. I mounted the switch to the firewall using the auxiliary power plug hole, this way it is out of sight but can be operated from the driver seat. I will post picture of the final result.
Thanks.
