Does anyone have a picture of how the manifold heat control is positioned when the engine is not running. Also how the spring sets around the shaft .Thanks in advance Gale

Be careful. There are two different heat riser setups. The most common unit available today is the CJ/M38 unit. The WWII MB unit is quite different.

M38

Comparison of the two types. Can the original author of this drawing email me so I can get the proper credit posted?

I replaced the spring in the past, but when engine warm the counterweight comes in the halfway position, not higher.
During summer i put a wire on the weight and block it in the full open position, no preheating. I feel no difference when driving the jeep.
There has me been told, better to drive with no prehaeting than a valve in a posioton with continu preheating.

A word of caution with that G503 posting reference. It is for the WWII MB and that spring is opposite a M38.
