Trico Vacuum wipers for M38

Will the Trico Vacuum wipers for the M151 work on the M38 standard windshield frame? Some say they wont and others do.

they will not. look at the wiper arm attachment...it wpnt slip through the windshield wiper holes. its made to be a pressure fit rather than an acorn nut attachment

You can modify them with a little work so they will work. I have done that will one of my jeeps and they function very nicely.

Has anyone used M151 Trico motors on the M38, Is it a simple enlarge the windshield hole to make it work and your good, or is there more to it?

Yes, don't drill your windshield. The M151 has a press on knurled knob that the arm would lock on. The m38 does not use this. Squeeze it in a vice and take a punch and tap the shaft out of it. Then compare your old original with the new one. The two shafts, one being the outer tube, are longer. Mark the outer and inner for the shorter lengths. Take the outer off the new motor and cut it for length and smooth up the end-------done with that. Then cut off the inner shaft that holds the arm that has the brass nut on the end. I then took a piece of tape and circled the shaft where the original shafts taper ended. The tape is your guide for the next step. Filing the shaft diameter a little smaller until you are down to the size a 10-32 die will start on. You then thread the end of the shaft until the die touches the tape. Since the die cuts progressively, you actually make the taper that the wiper arm will fit it's taper against. The brass nut is obviously 10-32. Works very well. The only difference with the old and new motor is the flat of the original has a box/check pattern to it while the M151 is smooth. Who cares when you have a brand new motor! I found a vender that sold my pair for 30 bucks, buy it now, on ebay. What a steal! John

Anyone know the measurement of the shaft from outside windshield frame to end of shaft after it is cut off and threaded to accept m-38 wiper arm? I am going to try this but do not have an old original to go by, only the new wiper motors. This article is very informative on this but do not know how much to cut with the vacuum motors i have.
