Clarification on Valve adjustment please!

Post by arisLgr »

On the TM1804A I read on page 86 paragraph 80 that 0.016 clearance should be set on all valves, but further down under Servicability Standards on page 126 it gives for the Intake 'Valve to tappet clearance 0.116' and on page 127for the Exhaust valve it gives 'Valve cap to tappet clearance 0.016'
Please clarify this for me!

Aris,

You said:
but further down under Servicability Standards on page 126 it gives for the Intake 'Valve to tappet clearance 0.116' and on page 127for the Exhaust valve it gives 'Valve cap to tappet clearance 0.016'
The 0.116 entry on page 126 is a Minimum clearance(NOT MAX) and is applied to only the intake stems. The entry 0.016 on page 127 is the MAX clearance between Exh valve rotator cap and tappet. Yes these entries can be confusing.
