ENGINE PLATE- COPPER WASHER

Request to know- what is the purpose of the copper washer on the Engine Plate in combination of the 5/16'' bolts (6)

Regular washer or do I need to go look for copper?

I did a search on here- spent a while looking and came up empty.

comes up with a new NIIN- 5330-00-695-7243

I believe those 6 copper washers are used on the support ("L") bracket to the engine and rear engine plate to ensure a waterproofing seal on the late type bell housing and rear engine plate.
The 6 bolts holding that bracket --- four go into the engine plate tapping blocks and two go into the underside of the block.

There's some debate on whether those bolts are regular hex-head cap screws or maybe indented hex ("Allen") screws. The ORD9 seems to indicate the former not the latter. I believe the length is a critical dimension. Also some indication that all should get some thread sealant.

If helpful, I wanted to add that:
I bought the long (horizontal) support bracket NOS from MWM along with the two take-off shorter L-support brackets.
Those 2 short brackets are a matched set "left" and "right" (they aren't identical).

I found the copper washers in the Hillman bins at my local Ace Hardware.
I suppose if you aren't submerging the truck you could use regular steel washers.

So i had the bracket already on the backing plate (if you saw the YT video youd see it)

I went out ot garage and found this baggie of bolts left over from the engine builder.

had the 6 bolts and copper washers in it.

this prompted me to do an inventory (picture) of all the things I have and what I am not sure of what it was cause the seller doesnt include a packing list or inventory part number on the item...... I would succeed in this profession but also go nuts if i was left to do it all...

Like- which is which?

What does this go to?

This is how my living room looked for three hours- I ordered a pizza via an app at 6pm and its 745 pm and not delivered still... now it says 915. what in tarnation!!!! (insert my real F bomb)- HILDA was not happy with me... It was interrupting her stories on YT.

I have a few items of the same thing for what ever reason- ordered from different vendors by accident?

Not much else is needed... just time and good weather.

Had I worked out side today I would have gotten less wet from the rain than I do from the produce isle of the grocery store! It didn't rain like the weather man said. If I went to my CO and said "hey Captain, this flux capacitor is broken; it will take a day to fix..." only to find out it was the widget from the Guiness bottle acting up---- I'd be fired in short order.

Glad you found the 6 bolts!
I'll have to go back and look at the YT video to see the bracket.
You already have the 2 smaller (left and right) mates for it?

On the rubber boots, I'm pretty sure the top one goes behind your gas pedal over the linkage rod through the floor pan.
Pretty sure the other is for the clutch cable where it passes into the bell housing. It fits over the nipple sticking out of the housing (there's a special clamp for it).

The 2 springs look to me like clutch and brake pedal return springs. Anchor points are shown in the manuals.

You didn't ask yet but while we're in the neighborhood, don't neglect your engine stay cable or your engine fan might eat your new expensive radiator for lunch.

Pizza and a Guiness sounds good!

Now you see how much love we share for prior owners that pull it apart, throw the pieces in unlabeled bags and then sell the project.

Our web site is full of advice but advice that shows up again and again is how to properly disassemble a project:

1 - Take photos before disassembly.
2 - Take good readable notes.
3 - Mark the containers used for each set of parts.
4 - Use the FREE MANUALS!

Yes the 2 others were already installed.

I have the engine stay cable. Just need to put it on.

What my biggest pet peeve is that suppliers just put stuff in a box, or multiple items with each other in a bag and don't put the numbers on it. Then they end up on a shelf for months- and I cant remember what I bought in that grouping- half the time the packing list went missing.

Hilda is my drama queen. She is very vocal.

I didn't take it as a berating either. It is what it is - sometimes you get stuff from other owners and it isnt the way it should be. This particular situation with the springs and rubber boots- I ended up buying two of it. I already had the clutch boot(new) i installed on my bell housing.

I know I have to label and inventory. I have adhd- I get going on one thing, hyper focus on others and then forget the thing i was just doing before- its a life long battle.

The mini parts can all get lost.

Ok, my bust, and apologies where due.

Looking at April's very first project post photos (here: http://willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php? ... 97&start=0 ) she got her M38 intact and took it apart herself (following her project it looks that way).
I think her M38 is one of the better examples of an unmolested survivor all in one piece.

And that's why I thought Wes' comments were directed at April (not the previous owner) --- because that guy obviously didn't pull it apart, bag it without labels, then sell it.

Sometimes I get easily confused when I read stuff.
