Hi Wes,
I'm currently rebuilding an M38 engine (cast number 641087-L-W12, engine number MC99273). I have found that there is no small tube on the rear main cap. Is this normal and is it absolutely necessary?

All L134's built after Jul/Aug 1948 came without the oil drain tube in the rear bearing cap. Willys engineers decided with the new crankcase ventilating systems it was no longer needed. Factory SB 48-43 dated Aug 31, 1948.
