USMC M100?

Just received an M100 from a friend. Its a November 1952 delivery date and is mostly original except the electrical and tail lights. The USMC Markings appear to be original but the Responsible Agency tag lists "Ord. Corps" for the responsible agency. My 1952 M38 Indicates "Marine Corps" as the responsible agency. Question to the group: Did the Marine Corps M100s have a different Responsible Agency tag like the M38s did? Just wanting to confirm that this was a USMC M100. Restoration to begin in the spring. Also, Were USMC M100s re-painted by the Marine Corps as the M38s were? Thanks

Hi Bob,
If it helps, a couple of years ago I sold an unmolested Marine Corps M100, made by Dunbar-Kapple and delivered January 1954.
It had what I believe were distinguishing Marine Corps modifications: undercoating, and the addition of fore and aft tie-down loops on both sides of the frame (you can see one in front of the tire in the middle photo).
Also had Marine Corps green #23 paint.
Unlike the Army M100 I still own, this one had an "M" prefix in front of the serial number. Not sure if that was unique to Marine Corps trailers.

Here's a few photos, including the Responsible Agency data plate that says procurement from the Army, but shows "USMC" for the Depot Maintenance.
Posting some photos of yours would help identify it.

Had your M100 been a post 1955 unit that had been procured by the Marine Corp it would have USMC in both blocks. Before 1955 the US Army was primary contracting agency for all the armed forces tactical vehicles. If your plate has Ord Corps in both blocks then it was original procured by the Army for use by the Army. It is not uncommon for these jeeps and trailers to change hands thru DRMO's over the years. I believe I answered this same question on this same trailer on facebook today as well. Trailers procured by the Army for the USMC will have Ord Corps in the procurement block and USMC in the Depot Maint. Block.

Was this your M100?

Note this US Army procured and operated M100 has an M prefix to it's serial which I believe the M represented "Military" with the Dunbar-Kappel serials.[/list]

My Army M100, also made by Dunbar-Kapple, doesn't have the "M" prefix in the serial number.
And that serial number is also the Army registration number found painted on it.

Might be a restamp replacement plate. Why not just post a photo of the plate?

This is the original brass data plate for 01169903.

The M100 illustrated in the February 1952 ORD9 SNL G-747 and the July 1951 TM9-871A has registration number 01163011.
