Chain/gear drive change date

Hi again,
once again I've gotten into an argument with a 'judge' at a show.
I have asked this answer here before and I'm sure it was answered but looking back through the archive I can't find it and it seems I didn't print it off. My library doesn't help either with a diffinitive date

Here's the problem, I firmly believe the change over from chain drive to gear drive was post WWII by a couple of years, if you are a chief judge you should know this. Well anyway I've again I've gotten into an arugument, the judge in question has sighted an article in the UK publication 'Classic Military Vehicles' that states the gear drive engine was in later war time production.
I think the author is wrong and the judge, but here in the UK it seems to be embedded as fact. I have been asked, 'Where is your evidence' put up or shut up, because accepted wisdom is the gear drive was in late WWII production and I'm a hereitic by doubting or daring to question a judge.

So.... please give me some evidence I can quote (or tell me I'm wrong) and an ISBN number so I can order / buy the data source.

It was after the war. Ask your judge to show you a supply manual that lists a gear driven cam replacement before the end of the war. I suppose these judges trust the AAW book just as much as the UK magazine he likes so well.
These books and magazines are attempts to help provide information but their accuracy is never 100% For example the AAW Vol 1 tells you the oil filter is useless and jsut block off the hoses. This was to eliminate a percieved threat to #1 bearing due to oil flow reduction to it because of the filter. What the author forgot to do was tell us to find annother way to lubricate the timing chain since theres no more oil pouring on it from the oil filter to timing cover return hose. Your judge should have enough sense to seperate supported data from unsupported data.

The 49 Willys master parts list shows the chain drive cam for the CJ2A up thru engine serial 44417. That would be about early 1946.

I suspect that an awfull lot of people have the gear drive engines and know this but want to claim that 'original' title.
