NOS parts package date

Post by BobW »

Anyone have any NOS G740 M38 parts with the original label? If so, what is the packing date? I am trying to determine when Willys-Overland began to supply spare parts to the Army. After a quick search the earliest date I have seen is 9/51. Can you beat that?

Hi Bob,
I can't beat September 1951, but I bet a visit to John at Midwest Military or George at Army Jeep Parts could.

Hi Bob,
Came across this video of a fellow restoring a M38 that shows him unpacking some parts he bought --- one is a NOS M38 accelerator pedal with original label that shows a date of 7/51.
Good shot of it at the 1:30 minute mark in his #17 video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0IhzOm0J5I

He has a series of videos for his M38 quest. Some are a little difficult to watch (for the M38 purist) as it doesn't appear he uses the manuals very much (if he even has them).

Bob, Have you reviewed the Army's procurement contracts which include spares on most of them. The Army would have needed parts on their supply shelves at least the same day the jeeps arrived.

eBay is a great place to find OEM parts, many in their original packaging.
