Here's a comparison of original style vs newer style seals.

Usually a leakage problem right after installing either of these seals will be caused by one of the following:
1 - Damaged seal lip during installation.
2 - Worn and/or grooved sealing surface on the yoke. (This can be addressed with a new "Speedie Sleeve" on your grooved yoke)
3 - Excessively worn and/or loose components.
Steps you should take to insure a leak free new seal installation are:
1 - Follow all directions carefully.
2 - Apply sealant carefully and sparingly only where the instructions tell you to.
3 - Apply grease to the yoke splines and the pinion spline.
4 - Insure the open edge of the seal lip that fits shaft tightest faces the gear oil source.
5 - Lubricate the seal lip before installation.
