Timing gear marks.

Post by davem201m38 »

Hi all,
I'm rebuilding my M38 MC engine.
I've noticed that when I line up the key way on the cam shaft and new fibre gear wheel there is 2 teeth difference.
I.e. Place the new fibre gear wheel over the old one still attached to the shaft, line up the two key ways and the indent on the new fibre gear is 2 teeth away from the indent on the old gear.

Any ideas or advice greatly accepted.
Cheers, Dave.

OK, I may have worked this out.
When you slide the gears together the indents then lone up?
Cheers, Dave.

Dave,

Are you saying when you lay one gear over the other the marks line up?

If the gears are the same number of teeth, then if the mark doesn't line up you may have the wrong timing gear.
