water pump repair

Post by Cacti_Ken »

EDITED.... Referring to the bottom photo, what does that fiber seal seat against?
Does anyone know where to get the ceramic seal kit that appears to be the right kit for this pump?

I had planned on replacing the bearing/shaft and seal in this water pump. But the replacement parts are not like the existing pump parts. Only the bearing/shaft is the same. And I'm not sure if the replacement kit is missing something.
Any thoughts on this?

I think your kit is correct. The new seal with the tabs goes in the slots on the impeller. Here is what the manual shows:

Well I still don't see what the fiber wafer seals against on the pump housing. Unless I leave the ceramic piece in there.

Another thing, the old shaft is a little longer than the new one, and the bearing is positioned closer to one end. so I don't believe it will work. I would just like to find the right kit for this housing. It was in use on the L134. But it had a single groove pully on it. maybe better to just junk it.

Ken, I know little about this, but the photo of your pump looks like what I had to do to a cj3 pump, I couldn't find a kit for it over here so I machined out the housing to fit a ceramic seal kit out of a pool pump, I also had to machine the inside edge of the impeler. And what I put into the cj pump looks like what is in your top photo. By the way two years down the track & the pump still seals like new with the pool kit mod.

I was just trying to keep it as a spare. I don't have acess to a lath anymore so If no one comes up with a tip on where to get the replacement parts we'll just have to buy a new or rebuilt one when the time comes or sooner cause prices just keep going up.
