Hello all, hope your all fine. Does anybody recognise this model of jeep I thought CJ3a but some things look odd to me.

Looks like photos of some of the "jeepney's" I have seen from the Philippines; a mixture of everything.......its a fubar jeep

Being from Indonesia I'd suspect a very early license built unit by Mahindra. Fenders are very interesting.

Well certain bits certainly looked odd to me. I guess your side of the pond you don't get many 'bogus' Willys other than the M201 which have been exported your way in there hundreds but over here anything that can have a Willys badge stuck on it ... gets it.
Funny that it still has the flathead engine, these have usually been replaced by small Japanese units.

I used to work in Andy Capps home town, one VERY tough area. In the spring I'll take the M38 down there and get a picture of it parked next to Andy. Mind you I won't hang about long!

We still see a lot of the early 60's thru 70's generic MD Juan universal tubs that look like a cross between a 3A, M38 and MB. These fool a lot of folks into buying what they think is an M38 just to find out the chassis is 2A or 3A with this odd tub with the tool indents on the right, no cowl battery box and a WWII MB style glove box and an instrument cluster panel that is the wrong size.

Well I sent a message to the seller asking for Data plate info. Here's his reply:

I'm afraid Wes we get a lot of this this side of the pond.
We now have people assembling new jeeps from parts and selling them via Milweb or ePay as 42' combat 101st etc

Currently we have Mahindra's being re-badged as CJ3B and we have people using the trick of cutting a couple if inches out of the higher scuttle of the Mahindra to drop the dash and then calling them Right Hand Drive MB's claiming they are US mail jeeps or US MILITARY mail jeeps and I've seen one done that claimed to be an ex ANZAC jeep!

I'll stick to my M201s and my M38.

If you keep an eye on the back grounds of the photos you start to recognise the garages where they are put together.

Bizzarly (tongue in cheek here), there are far more Willys jeeps today than when I was a child and they were still in normal circulation!

I would hope the buyer is smart enough to not have more than $500 or $600 US tied up in something with bad paper.

Sadly Wes not likely in this country.
MY bet would be that somebody will pay about £3500+ about $7000 for that jeep because they will see the badge, 'Willys' and it looks like it has all the whistles and bells.

That's an unusual hub on the rear tire. This
"thing" almost looks armored, especially the
doors. Is that a police light on top of the air
inlet? Perhaps that would explain things somewhat.

That's the Spicer Model 23-5 full floater rear end. It was used in the WWII Willys MB and the Ford GPW with 4:88 gearing and in the very early post WWII CJ2A with 5:38 gearing.

That jeep is a group of parts from many jeeps including the foreign license built stuff.

I suspect it's a Mitsubishi (modified) product, ex police / civil guard and knowing what things are like in Indonesia wouldn't surprise me if it did carry some armored bits. As the value of these things increases in the West it's amazing what's starting to come out of the wood-work.
One to watch for are some miliitary CJ3B look a likes from Spain (built I think by Ebro) with Perkins diesel engines, I am told they are totally incompatable with anything Willys but look identical to M606 ? I remember a few years ago these were worthless, but with 'new' tags they can be sold as Willys to the unsuspecting, one just went on ePay in the UK for $5670.
