Width of winch Ramsey 50 / best PTO to use

I'm really sorry to bother people with this as it's been posted before for somebody else but I can't find the post now;

Part 1
What is the width of the Ramsey 50 winch. Outside end cap to outside end cap. I'm planning on narrowing a Ramsey 200 to fit better between the front chassis, I know other people have done this and now the winter is here I'm going to see about doing mine.

Part 2.
I am never going to find the correct PTO so which is the next best PTO to use, getting an offset shortend should'nt be a problem and I assume(?) that jeep winch ptos are like old Land Rover ones I've seen where the angle of the output can be swept through an arc simply by removing the bolts and moving it round.

You have several choices. Ramsey made the model 100 short side that we are never able to find but they also made two wider throw units. The DP-1 was a twin stick with a straight out the back drive flange and a forward drive shaft on the wide end. The PT1-J was a single stick wide unit with both a front and rear shaft at the wide end.

Hi Wes,
my M38 came with a PTO unit on the back of the transfer case but it simply had a flange sticking out the back of the PTO, there was no arm to off set the drive.

Looking at the drawings, do I understand correctly that the PTO that bolts to the back of thetransfer box is 1 part and the offset arm is a second part that bolts to the rear of the PTO? If this is the case then I'm actually only looing for the offset arm? to attach the winch drive shaft to.

This far north its still dark outside 0920hrs but when it gets lighter I'll go out and crawl under the m38 and take a picture.

If I can figure this out I can put a wanted add on here>

You have the rear output only Ramsey PT-2. It is of no use to anyone wanting to operate something at the front of the jeep.

The correct PTO for the M38 eliminates exhaust system clearance issues. The civvy PTO's all offer some degree of exhaust or clutch cross shaft interference issues. The Ramseys will be a little more expensive. Use caution when selecting the Koenigs since the wagon/pickup versions can't be reoriented for the CJ chassis. The Koenigs start around $50 unwarranted and the Ramseys go as high as $250. You can fabricate drive shafts, using off the farm store shelf shafts, U-joints and bearing supports.

Watch ebay, Willys Tech sale board and place wanted adds here, G503 and Early CJ5 board, and Willys Tech board. Wouldn't hurt to place a wanted notice on the CJ2A, CJ3A and CJ3B boards as well.

my plan is to cut the casing and shorten the offset by taking a couple of inches out the middle. Course, I'm being a bit nieve about that as I'm not sure about the angle. But the M38 has to be completly taken down to its assemblies this winter, so I might as well get it done. I think I've owned the winch for a couple of years and done nothing with it.
I also have a diff lock to go in the rear and a duel circuit brake master cylinder to go on, as well as put the new engine in.

It didn't really get light enough to take some photos today, low heavy cloud etc. so I'll get some tomorrow and try an figure out which casting for the block the frenchies used.

Hey Wes thanks for labeling the models of the Koenig PTOs in the picture from my web site. I just updated my site and replaced my previous picture but noticed an error. The Wagon/Truck pto you have labeled as the Model 50 is actually a Model 40, and the One you have as a Ramsey PT-2 is actually a Spicer.

Hello Dave, the PT1-J ways 19 pounds. The Koenigs weigh in at 15 pounds for the single sticks. The Spicer I have is an 18H and weighs 14 pounds.
