Transfer case/output shaft bushing on M38

Post by bucky »

I am rebuilding my transfercase, tranny done already. The output shaft in the transfercase contains a bushing worn out long ago..... How on earth do you get the old bushing out to put the new one in?.....Its probably simple thats why I cant figure it out. Thanks bucky

I am trying to remember what that looked like, but it seems to me that you need to use a hydrolic press to put them in and sometimes to take out the bushings.

Anyone else on this. It has been a few years since I did this part.

If you look in the military maintinance manual it goes through the process of tearing down and rebuild.

I think you need to take it to a machine shop - I think it is a press fit. The new bushing will need to be reamed to fit your output clutch shaft.

If you are referring to the pilot bushing item # 54 you need a blind hole bushing puller.
