Might have found the problem with my m38
Took the head off my m38 today. Seems the head gasket failed. I dont have my manual with me I need the torque specs for the head and the order to torque the nuts.

The guy I bought the jeep from said the engine was rebuilt. When I first got the jeep I pulled the valve cover off and everything looked good. So I had not reason to doubt him. After we pulled the head the rest of the engine does look good as well other than the one valve problem. My brother plans on pulling the engine this weekend and tearing it down, then bringing it to the machine shop. While it is there the guy is going to check everything since it will be apart. We are taking it all the way down to make sure no metal shavings from the guide got into the bearings.
The machine shop is going to check all the valve guides. If he finds anything wrong he is going to bore out the current ones and had brass inserts, he likes those better than the ones you can buy now.

My brother pulled my engine yestarday and took it to the machine shop. The guy as the machine shop is going to check everything over and fix the broken valve. I will also need new bearings, seems some of the metal from the guide scored them a little, didnt hurt the crank at all. Dont know how long it will be before my engine is back together again.
