Stamped numbers on my M-170 engin

I just changed out the rocker arm gasket pn my '54 M-170 and when I was cleaning the gasket surface on the engin block I noticed 005 stamped on the block in the back by the lifting hook mount. Any Idea what these numbers might mean.

I would suggest that it is the amount the head was shaved to flatten it in an overhaul. Mine has a .005 stamp on one flat and a year on the other.

Thanks I will look to see if there is a year stamp on the other side.
