Tub to frame mount blind hole

Post by Ryan_Miller »

Hey,

On the body tub to frame mounting that has the blind hole in the hat channel, my cage nut inside the hat channel came loose on dissasembly. I have tried a regular rivet nut (that expands as you screw the bolt in), but the only ones I can find in 3/16-24 are round ones and the hole in the hat channel is square (not enough to grip the nut).

I looked into cage nuts, but they are too big (I may have to cut a relief in the hole to get the nut in and then weld it back). The original must have been put in before the hat channel was welded to the tub floor.

I could not find a large square shoulder rivet nut in 3/8-24 (1/4 was the largest)

Has anyone else had any ideas that would work without having to cut and weld.

How big is the hole? Could you thread a piece of flat stock 3 to 4 incheslong x 3/4 inches or so wide and slide in the hole and thread the bolt thru .

Hey,

It is aroung 1/2 inch X 1/2 inch square.

I ordered some split shaft rivet nuts from McMaster Carr today that are supposed to have several splits lengh wise along the shaft to fit in larger and irregular holes. I hope that works.

Drill a hole all the way thru and use a carrige bolt on that position...

It wold be rounded over and not as noticable as a bolt head...

That is what I did...
