It was not uncommon for military vehicle overhaul facilities to stamp the serial number or registration number on the frame rails during overhauls.

Wes and Brian,
I will take a look tonight. I went back to the previous owner to try and gain some more info. He bought it off ebay with a FLA title. He was told it came off the USS Sarasota. All hearsay but who knows.
Thanks for your help. I will let you know if I find anything.

Guys, Spent some time tonight looking for any numbers. No such luck, but I will keep looking. The frame is coated with dirt and several layers of paint.
Thanks,
Steve

Guys, Just an update. All the advise was very good. I replaced the clogged pvc valve. Its located between the oil dipstick and the bottom of the carb. I know this is not the correct place but it seems to be working fine. It looks like it was never located on the side of the engine block. Just a flat plate there and the paint looks original. I also put in a 160 f thermostat(drilled a 1/8' hole in it). There was none there before. After that that the engine ran much better and it got up to proper temp. 160-170f It really purrs now and idles nicely. White oil goo no more. Now working on the steering.....
Thanks,
Steve
