Perhaps i will invest in some grinding/cutting tools. I have a pal who is a professional underwater welder who can do the further repair stuff.

If John at Midwest is making them they are as good as the originals,
same with George at Army Jeep Parts.

Get yourself a 4-1/2" angle grinder. You can put cutting and grinding wheels as well as flap wheels, and wire brushes. Truly a multi tool. Probably on sale everywhere right now. Get some good gloves to use it with, and a full face shield. Safety is paramount with all power tools.

If your bud is an underwater pipeline welder he can weld anything in any environment AND have it pass an X-ray inspection.

He might have a little fun with 18 gauge sheet though....
