I think maybe you double-counted the first line in my list for the BRACKET, HOOD CATCH at the top of page 287. I still count the total as 70, not 74.
I'm glad we agree that typos in those text descriptions are the culprit. I've pen-changed corrections into my copy of the ORD9.
I'm not interested in a show queen for judging, but do like to keep the faith on details when I can. Now to save up and buy some!

hmm I counted twice and got 70 both times. Then I ran it through the calculator and got 70 as well.

Well...since December 20th when I originally posted and today, AJP doubled the price from 35-cents each to 70-cents each. And 35-cents was the every day price, not a sale price.
Karma or inflation I suppose. Funny how that works. Serves me right for not pulling the trigger sooner.

Ron,
McMasters has the SEMS bolts with the external lock washers, PKG 50 for $11.75 and the Internal tooth washers PKG 100 for $6.24. So for less than $30 you can get 100 bolts and washers...then all you have to do is swap the external tooth for the internal tooth and save half the cost. I know the washers won't be permanently attached, but once installed no one will know the difference.

That's pretty much what I have now. Like you say, 99 of 100 people don't know the difference anyway. Maybe I'm just having some OCD.
I would've liked to get the faithful reproduction SEMS, but not at $1 or even 70-cents each. Way too rich for my blood. I know and respect that vendors rate a profit for the investment they make, after all they can't be found just anywhere like back in the day.
I did find a place that has external tooth SEMS in that size (1/4-20x5/8, recessed hex-head and all), and the cost was just under 20-cents each with a minimum buy of 600 (enough to do eight M38's).
I was half-hoping the typos in the ORD9 were supposed to be external tooth instead of the correct internal tooth or I'd have already bought them. And to be honest, with a mind to re-sell some just enough to recover my cost (25-cents each).
Their web site doesn't list internal tooth SEMS in that size, but they say to call because not everything they have is listed. Kicking that idea around.....but sure don't want to tick anybody off.
P.S. Did you see the photo of the shovel I posted that you asked for a side-shot of?

Ron, buying in bulk and selling off the extras is not a bad thing...others would benefit as well. I did something similar when restoring my '57 Chevy Fire Engine...none of the vendors sold the correct trim clips for the body moldings. I contacted a spring clip manufacturer to have 46 made and it was going to be $700...set up and one hour of machine time, so I asked how many he could make in one hour and he said 4000. I paid for the extra materials and became the go to guy for those clips untill one of the vendors bought me out...in the end I got my clips for free which was all I wanted to do.

I've never seen a shovel that fits, but have had a bunch that don't...the common used garden shovel found at yard sales has too deep of a curve and the handle hits the drivers side radiator core support brace. I'll keep looking at the shows to see if I can actually put my hands on one.

Well if its a bulk order, I would be interested in 100 of them. Need to be correct though, 5/8" lg, not 3/4" and not 1/2"

That's one of the two sources I found. They sure look the same.
There's a table with all the measurements, but I don't have an original M38 bolt to compare to see if they're exactly the same.
It's also not clear to me if they're made in the USA.

They may be the same as the 425380 hex bolt. But can't be sure with the screw noun used on the rest which infers a phillips or common screw head or a hex with a phillips or common slot in it.
By the way Ron what does the acronym SEMS stand for?

The description at that link says it's un-slotted, indented hex head.
I'm pretty sure that SEMS isn't an acronym, probably better called SEM's rather than SEMS because it's short for a pre-asSEMbled screw (bolt) washer combination.
Who came up with that nick-name I know not.
