in your troubleshooting you talk about a tiny nylon insulator on little bracket on the contacts, but where exactly is it located ?
I have nothing there....

1 - Yes you are unlucky loosing two coils at the same time.

2 - I haven't bought a new coil in about 20 years so I doubt I can steer you to a reliable vendor. I have always bought up any US made stock coils at car shows here over the years. I can only advise that you not use Asian manufacturers' coils.

3 - The moving contact arm of the contact points has to be insulated from ground to insure it is only grounded while closed. Some points have the insulation plate built in, some have it on the bottom plate of points and some use a slide on phenolic plate at the terminal screw. Here's how the M38A1 does it:

I notice he states AJP tested but still not where they are made!

Erik & Pete do not offer a hint where their new Super Reliable Coils are manufactured either!

My dealings with AJP have always been 100% satisfactory.

I would not hesitate in buying one from him.

It can hardly be news to anybody who buys stuff in this hobby, but many vendors don't advertise where the parts they sell are made.
Some even appear to go out of their way to camouflage it.
Some even get downright upset if you ask.
Ask me how I know. So I quit asking a long time ago.
If they want you to know where something they sell is made they'd be advertising it.

All I can say is ---> pick up the phone and call.
If you don't want to sour the conversation by asking where it was made then ask instead about their advertised reliability, including warranty and return policy (which is usually "none" when it comes to electrical parts).
Most reputable vendors want to sell and stand behind quality parts to enhance their reputation in the community and stay in business?

You might keep this in mind: if the coils were made in the U.S. I'll bet you they'd not only tell you but they'd also be advertising it.
That tells you all you need to know.

Good luck trying to figure out if one made in India, Mexico, Asia, or where ever is any better than the other.

So, when you're standing there looking at your bad 24V coil(s), and you didn't buy up all the NOS coils you could find over the years, what else is there to do?

Either roll the dice and buy one --- or convert to 12 volts comes to mind?
Or perhaps somebody sitting on a NOS life-time stockpile would sell one for a fair price.

My purchase experience from all 3 of those vendors (and others) has always been excellent.

Giacomo is in Italy, so he might have other challenges....

Thank you for that tremendously encouraging long speech. Bottom line is they are peddling foreign made products. The good part of this last long speech is the emphasis moved to check on warranty and return policies. These are few and far between.

Giacomo asked where he could buy a 24V coil and I offered 3 possible sources.
Is this forum still about that or not?

Giacomo is in Italy. Unless he finds a coil made in Italy they're all going to be foreign made to him, even NOS.

Foreign made products aren't necessarily a bad thing, especially if that's the only choice.
I imagine Giacomo prefers buying Italian like I prefer buying American, but it's not always possible.
The days are long gone when Americans (or Italians) had the monopoly on quality.
Quality and price are what matters to most folks these days.

As for the "long speech" that takes all of about 2 minutes to read?

1 - Buying used or NOS US made coils at car shows does not equal a stockpile. What it does mean is by being selective and always carrying a VOM in my car since the 80's I was able to maintain a spare supply of a 1/2 dozen quality US made coils for the last 42 years.

2-Just exactly how many good quality foreign coils have you purchased from the vendors mentioned that has built up such a trust in your soul? You should answer this honestly and specify the makes so our members can safely share in your confidence!

One of our members is selling a new one, he does not list a brand. Message him and ask if he'll ship to Italy.
