Rommel, not to try to encumber you with the strangling rules and regs
forced upon us here in the states by OSHA and MSHA but in mfg your
greatest asset is your people on the floor. I noticed from your photos
very little in the way of safety gear-glasses, hearing protection etc.
Just my 2C worth..

Hi Rommel. I bought one of your M38 body kits as well as a gas tank. Think it was older production because it had the gret primer. I was actually surprised it was better than what I had heard. Only things I could add is the dashboard had holes in wrong spots and the mounting of the dash plate didnt have the recesses for the 1/4 turn fasteners and the hat channels were pretty far off from the mounts. All in all it made a pretty good looking M38. Not sure if any of this was corrected in later versions but keep up the good work. Pics are on page 3 of teh gallery.

Rickg are you looking closely at the photos? All but three folks are wearing appropriate safety gear. Two of the remaining three are simply handling/stacking/sorting a set of parts and the last one on the punch press appears to be using a shield hanging on the machine to hide his face behind when actually punching the wheel ring.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the kind words. In order to know wen your MDJuan tub was made , please look at the toe board gussets and find the serial number.

i was fooled. I just know you wouldn't catch me sittin in that fellows
place. It was just 1 persons observation, not to be taken as a

New version of M38A1 Fuel Tank

Hey Rommel:

Bump -- This original message appeared on page 2 of this thread, but received no response, so I've edited to try again

I've seen your info on the new and improved M38A1 fuel tank. A couple of questions, if you don't mind:

1. Will the standard military NOS Filler Tube Strainer (see Item EE below) fit in the improved model?

2. Will the improved version have the three spot welded clips attached? (1 ea Item A for holding the fuel line; and 2 ea Item G for holding the Sending Unit wire) [See Wes' Photo Below]

Rommel, I bought one of your "old" M38A1 tanks. Paid 400.00 for it and after soldering in my old filler neck, I sold it for 200.00 and licked my wounds. The filler should have a lip for the filter screen to sit on at the bottom. There should be a clip point for the cap chain. The sender holes were clocked wrong. The sender was located incorrectly and the hold down strap ran right into it. The location of the fuel filter/fuel pickup was wrong and the fuel line and vent line had to be extended to re-attach. When all was corrected, the seat would not bolt to the floor because the tank was too tall. I needed at least 3/8 of an inch less in tank height. That height wrecked it all and I gave up. Your diagram still shows the tank too high and the filler insides are still with no lip. Don't have a clue if you corrected the rest. Anyone else have something to tell him????????? John

hello Rommel;

very neat stuff, and I am very impressed that you are corresponding with the knowledgeable folks in here. I don't want to belabour the issue any longer, but I thought I would throw in my two cents.

I am a M38 Cdn owner who has a tub that has the jeep script on the front of the toolbox. One thing that is missing in the discussion is that any repro toolboxes with the "jeep" script on the market do not have the two louver vents on it that the blank ones do. that would be great if it could be included.

A couple of parts that would be great to repro and make available are the license plate bracket that was located on the M38 CDN underneath the front bumper, and the other that is put on the back drivers side rear. (I think that there is one in Hawkshadow project posts). Also, if you are retooling a tub for the Cdn unit, the also had a bracket for the convoy light that they had to shine underneath against the rear end of the back axle.

I also second the idea about the M38 book.
