Ken,

The items I mentioned repairing or correcting are of an immediate nature.

Yes even one wire alternators usually have at least a sense wire to the switch and most have provisions for an idiot light wire as well. Post the model of the alternator and a closeup photo of the back of the alternator case.

Well that was a good first drive then - just a little "to get to know you time".

I wouldn't worry about the gearshift - I've never had a problem with it personally. The drivetrain definitely has its own feel and the Willys "sound"! As long as you can sit back and cruise around at 40 or 45 mph, you'll love it.
I'll have to do that if I'm over that way - are there many more mv owners over there (I know there is an MVPA club in Spartanburg)?

I took mine for a ride this afternoon to go fill her up with some ethanol free gas. She performed flawlessly all the way up to 55mph! A little cool out to be going over about 35 though.

Looking good, welcome to the club!
Is that Beacher's other A1 in the pic?

Bretto, yes it is. He's got it in AirForce colors. Really looks nice - he did a super job on it.

Wes, I will get some better shots of the alternator and post them for you.

Also, I meant to ask - he put a new set of NDT 6-16s on the jeep he sold me. You don't see any major issues with that size tire do you even though it calls for 7s?

Thanks guys!

Ken

You'll be winding the engine higher and noisier to make the same speed a 7.00-16 would make. Also means faster wear and tear and lower mileage.

The old MB's used the 6.00-16 because they had 4.88:1 gears. The M38/M38A1 have lower 538:1 gears hence the taller tires.
